January Meeting - Officers Phase Two, WENYC

The January Meeting Elected More VID Officers and Highlighted the WE NYC Initiative On January 14th VID elected (re-elected) the remaining roster of officers and then heard from VID favorite Marti Spiranza about the Women Entrepreneur initiative to expand female entrepreneurship in New York City, with a special focus on under-served women and communities.  You can see the Minutes of the entire meeting here. First, the elections: There was only one nominee for Treasurer–Frieda Bradlow Kathy Slawinski was the one nominee for Recording Secretary For Corresponding Secretary, the two nominees were Ed Yutkowitz and Jonathan Geballe. As there were two positions, the two were unanimously elected through acclamation. VID Sponsors Democratic Presidential Forum NYC On Nov. 1st, 2015, VID and 23 other Clubs sponsor the Democratic Presidential Forum NYC at the SVA Theater, 333 West 23rd St., NYC to a 300 plus audience of dedicated Democratic activists.  The program lasted for two hours. The Planning Committee included:  Samuel Albert (GSID), Erik Coller (VID) Jill Eisner (Lenox Hill), Jen Hoppe (VID) Tony Hoffmann (VID) , Maki Isayama (GNYCEC), Trudy Mason (Lex Club), Paul Newell (DID), Judy Richheimer (CRDC), Allan Roskoff (Jim Owles), Bessie Schacter (Lex Club), Michael Schweinsburg (504), Marti Speranza (VID), Mark Thompson (Tilden), Tiffany Townsend (ERDC), and Ed Yutkowits (VID) master-minded on-line outreach, program participants, SVA coordination and a host of other details that precipitated a lively dialogue with the major candidates in the running for the Presidency in 2016. VID's September Meeting

The September Meeting Covered Many Topics… Minutes-2015-9-17 September was a busy month:  leafleting, poll watching, campaigning, judicial candidate selections, forums, vigils, the Judicial Delegates Convention and more.  Following is a brief summary of the General Membership Meeting with a link to the full minutes. Tim Wu will be working for the NYS Attorney General, specializing in technology. The Executive Committee had voted to donate $225 to the Cooper Square Committee for an ad in their journal, it was approved by the Membership. Terri Cude and Dennis Gault won by a large margin, and All six of our judicial delegates won. VID will be working with Food and Water Watch regarding regarding the non-therapeutic use of antibiotics in raising livestock and its role in causing antibiotic-resistant bacteria.  VID has already passed a resolution on the topic. 58th Annual Awards Gala

VID Celebrates its 58th year with an Awards Gala A highlight in the spring season of NYC politics, VID’s 58th Annual fête  promises no less in 2015.  The Spring Forward Awards Gala will take place on Thursday, April 30th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Tio Pepe Restaurant, at 168 West 4th St. Honors will go to Zephyr Teachout and Tim Wu for bringing progressive values to the ballot and challenging the Democratic status quo.  Receiving honors for the fight for a living wage for all workers will be Shantel Walker, on behalf of Fast Food Forward.
