VID’s True Blue Supporters Highlighted Our 62nd Annual Awards Among many illustrious attendees were Congressmember Carolyn Maloney, Comptroller Scott Stringer, Borough President Gale Brewer, Senators Brad Hoylman and Robert Jackson, Assemblymember Deborah Glick, and Councilmember Carlina Rivera.  Of course, we owe a special thank-you to our awardees: our incredible Speaker and Councilmember Corey Johnson, grassroots allstars True Blue NY and No IDC NY, and VID legend Frieda Bradlow.  Lastly, we need to thank the Gala Committee — Sara Kimbell, Elissa Stein, Nadine Hoffmann, Tony Hoffmann, Lois Rakoff, Nancy Shamban, and Jen Hoppe.  The BIGGEST thanks go to Sara Kimbell and Elissa Stein, the Gala Co-Chairs — the amount of work they did was jaw-dropping, and they managed to make an incredible event go off without a hitch.  And we haven’t forgotten our long list of sponsors. VID was honored to wish happy Holidays to all our friends and fellow strategists.  Thank you for joining us. More than 200 activists and electeds filled Frieda Bradlow’s home with the buzziest conversations on Sunday, December 10th.  As “Happy Holidays to All Democrats” rang loud throughout, the rumbling of new strategies, lists of new action networks, vows to press on dominated the afternoon. Curbside Composting Pickup Resolution

At the April 13th General Meeting VID passed a Curbside Composting Pickup Resolution  VID agrees with the New York City Department of Sanitation program for collecting food scraps, spoiled food, food-soiled paper, and yard trimmings and plants – collectively known as organics or organic waste. This waste comprising almost one-third of the waste that the NYC Department of Sanitation collects when composted can enrich and not damage our environment, as well as saving the City money on landfill costs. New York City will be contributing to the “zero waste” to landfills by 2030 policy. The full curbside composting pickup resolution calls upon Community Board #2 Manhattan (CB#2)  and the NYC Dept of Sanitation to expand the program to Manhattan and specifically to CB#2: “Whereas, there are no Manhattan neighborhoods participating in the City’s curbside composting program and we feel that Community Board 2 Manhattan meets the characteristics for this program.” Here […]
