Stop the Loss of Affordable Housing, Get on the Bus

 STOP THE LOSS OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING, JOIN THE FIGHT. WE ONLY HAVE UNTIL JUNE 15 TO CHANGE THE RENT LAWS. Get on a FREE bus to Albany to demonstrate for changes in the rent law that will stop the loss of affordable housing.   Advocates and tenants will rally in Albany on Tues., June 9. Buses will leave at 7 a.m. at 135th St. and Fifth Ave. in front of P.S. 197 and will return to New York City at 6 p.m. Transportation is free, and breakfast and lunch are included. Talking Point:  Candles for Clemency

April 18 Vigil Postponed, Clemencies on the Threshold  We have good news to report.  After over four years without granting a single clemency to anybody in prison, the Cuomo administration has promised to begin a process of identifying viable candidates for clemency and to begin issuing clemency to those deemed worthy.  This change of heart can, in large part, be attributed to the dedicated work of the people and organizations that joined Candles For Clemency.   We held a rally and a candle light vigil in front of Governor Cuomo’s home last September.  We planned on having a similar, but much larger, vigil in front of his home on April 18. But the Governor’s office heard of our vigil and asked us to meet with his representatives in hopes that we would postpone the Vigil for at least six weeks so that they could start a clemency process. Village Independent Democrats Endorse Zephry Teachout

At the July 10th Membership Meeting the Village Independent Democrats Endorse Zephry Teachout ….after lengthy presentations and debate from all three Gubernatorial candidates the Club chose Zephyr Teachout with a majority vote of 14.  Pre and Post coverage of  VID and its pending decision whether to endorse any candidate has been pretty impressive.  VID-MINUTES-July-10-2014 From Capital New York: Of the 26 votes cast at the Village Independent Democrats club, Teachout received 14 votes and Cuomo got six. “No endorsement” was supported by four people while comedian Randy Credico got two votes. Teachout won the club’s endorsement on the first ballot. In May, before Teachout entered the race, V.I.D. decided not to endorse any candidate for governor. VID Endorsements - Updated

VID Endorsements for State and Judicial Candidates On Thursday, May 8th VID members gathered to hear statements from four judicial candidates and to endorse seven State candidates for the Democratic Primary ballot.  Nat Johnson presided.  Here are the Minutes for that meeting. UPDATE:  On July 10 VID members gathered to re-consider the original vote of No Endorsement for Governor and voted to endorse Zephyr Teachout.  The final results are: 1.      Civil Court: two positions: Louis Nock  (Update 7/10/14) Arlene Bluth 2.      State Committeeman-66th AD: No Endorsement  3.      State Committeewoman-66th AD: Rachel Lavine 4.      Assembly-66th AD: Deborah Glick  5.      Senate- 27th District: Brad Hoylman    6.      Comptroller: Tom DiNapoli  7.      Attorney General: Eric Schneiderman 8.      Governor – Zephyr Teachout  (Update 7/10/14)
