October Meeting Minutes

VID’s October Meeting Welcomed Senator Brad Hoylman, Borough President Gale Brewer and Andrew Berman, Exec Director GVSHP FULL OCTOBER MEETING MINUTES The October Meeting also featured reports from Tony Hoffmann of the Campaign Committee, Nat Johnson of the Environmental Committee, District Leader Keen Berger, Deb and Allison Stowell of the Gun Reform Committee and Alison Greenberg reporting on the SBJSA bill.  Topping this off were endorsements for Judicial candidates and the ballot Propositions. Discussions began with the Campaign Committee with Tony Hoffmann speaking of buses scheduled for swing districts, with VID the leading sponsor among many downtown clubs.  Jerry Nadler is a major participant, and Scott Stringer wants to be part of the effort.  Tony also asked for volunteers at Abingdon Square for fund raising for the buses. Voter Guide -Nov. 7, 2017

VID is now distributing the Nov 7, 2017 Voter Guide Please help VID give out Voter Guide cards on Election Day. You can dowload the full Voter Guide HERE If you have a couple of hours to spare you can make a difference. We need to defeat ballot proposal #1 calling for a NY State constitutional convention (see attached palm card).   The most important hours are 7-9 AM & 5-7 PM but anytime is good.   Contact VID’s campaign chairs if you are available to hand out our palm cards on Election Day: Tony Hoffmann Laurie Hardjowirogo   You can pick up palm cards at VID Headquarters, 26 Perry St., at the following times: Thurs. 11/2 – 6-7:30 PM Sat. 11/4 – 11:00 AM-1:00 PM Mon. 11/6 – 6:00-7:30 PM Tues. 11/7 – 7-9: AM; 4-7 PM Don’t forget to check your POLL SITE LOCATION

VID Endorsements for City-Wide Candidates

At the May 11th meeting, VID endorsements for City-Wide candidates were voted upon after reports from the Voter Outreach, Environment, Affordable Housing and Gala Committees.   The VID endorsements for City-Wide candidates followed a highly successful and well-publicized Candidates Night at the LGBT Center on May 2nd [read The Villager’s coverage]and the general meeting’s focus on Club committee work and community issues.  You can read the full meeting minutes here. The meeting began with a request from President Erik Coler to the membership to itemize a list of community concerns.  The responses included tax issues, civil rights protections, parks, after school programs, a new bathroom in the Jefferson Market Library.  Also mentioned were bike racks, broken sidewalks, potholes, “curb cut” ramps, less stop and frisk, noisy clubs, mental health care, more mom and pop stores and small business in general.  Also traffic congestion, lack of coordination at construction sites, participatory budgeting, […]

58th Annual Awards Gala

VID Celebrates its 58th year with an Awards Gala A highlight in the spring season of NYC politics, VID’s 58th Annual fête  promises no less in 2015.  The Spring Forward Awards Gala will take place on Thursday, April 30th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Tio Pepe Restaurant, at 168 West 4th St. Honors will go to Zephyr Teachout and Tim Wu for bringing progressive values to the ballot and challenging the Democratic status quo.  Receiving honors for the fight for a living wage for all workers will be Shantel Walker, on behalf of Fast Food Forward.
