May General Meeting

President David Siffert opened the May General Meeting by thanking everyone for their efforts to help in the Gala, especially congratulating Melissa Carty and Sara Kimbell. At the May General Meeting on Thursday, May 9th four resolutions passed; six committees gave progress reports and guest speaker, Emily Arsenault, from  Kirsten Gillibrand’s office spoke on gun control.   Party Leader Reports District Leader Keen Berger’s three conclusions: Support elected officials who are doing good work, mentioning especially Jerry Nadler and Brad Hoylman.  The importance of the little organizations that are working on good goals like electing good people and correcting gerrymandering.  She agreed that the 14th Street situation is a mess and she’s glad that Elissa Stein wrote her great resolution in response.  This sparked a discussion regarding support for the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, working on the “double jeopardy” law, pushing to get Trump’s tax returns, and support for Planned […]

VID Gun Reform Committee Goes to Washington

VID’s Gun Reform Committee Headed by Deb Sherman Was Front and Center on Feb. 6th The Gun Reform Committee was present at the FIRST House Committee hearing on Gun Control, Chaired by Congressman Jerrold Nadler.  VID Gun Reform Committee Chair, Deb Sherman said: February 6th is the first hearing on gun violence in nearly 10 years. It is Congressman Jerry Nadler’s first hearing as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee signaling his priority on sensible gun legislation. VID’s Gun Reform Committee was at the hearing to support his leadership and the importance of H.R. 8.  We made sure we were present. Following an intensive effort by Deb Sherman and Allison Stowell to bring this issue front and center, VID has formed an enthusiastic Committee to spearhead this initiative. November 2018 Meeting Minutes

High Spirits Dominated the November 2018 Meeting with NYS Senate Democratic Majority and Congressional Victories Throughout the State and Nation. Erik Coler opened the November 2018 Meeting with congratulations to a long list of VID members whose unceasing volunteerism made a tangible difference, with a special shout out to Erik Bottcher, Laurie Hardjowirogo, and Tony Hoffmann. There was a discussion about the Public Advocate’s Forum to be held on November 12, and whether the club should co-sponsor.  The club voted to co-sponsor with the caveat that all who ask to appear will be included, possibly at future VID meetings. Erik also announced that the elections for club President and three Vice Presidents will be held in December, and he explained the rules. Keen Berger’s District Leader report also included congratulations for the club’s role in electing Antonio Delgado, Max Rose, and Ron Kim, and the NYS Senate victories.  She spoke […]
