VID Celebrates 60 Years

At a well-attended April 27th event, VID Celebrates 60 Years. We recall words on VID’s history from Ed Gold: The club’s formation flowed from the disappointment in the 1956 presidential election when Adlai Stevenson, the hero of reform-minded Democrats, was routed once more by the war hero Dwight Eisenhower, while receiving only lukewarm support from the dominant old-line Tamawa Club in the Village, where DeSapio called the shots. A group of dejected Stevensonians from the Village Stevenson campaign gathered in late 1956 or early 1957 and decided the Village deserved better than Tammany leadership. –  Ed Gold. The Villager and The Downtown Express,  Feb. 23, 2007. Civil Court Candidates Presentations b. Questions from the Audience         The candidates reported out of the New York County judicial panel are:  Emily Minerva, Phaedra Perry, Shah Ali, Judy Kim, Robert Rosenthal, Josh Hanshaft, Nick Moyne and Margaret Chan.  This year there are two County-wide vacancies for Civil Court.  Margaret Chan is an incumbent running for re-election in 2nd District; she has no opponents.  6.  Clubhouse news–Nadine Hoffmann  7.   New Business **We will have a special endorsement meeting on Monday, May 23, directly after the Executive Committee meets.  Location TBA
